Gossip of the Starlings Gossip of the Starlings by Nina de Gramont

    My review

    rating: 5 of 5 stars
I loved this book. It relates the lives of high school age kids who are living a much different experience than I did at that time in my life. I was a public school/private school kid but not residential private school as these are. Very enlightening. They confront many of the same issues that I remember even though they are 30 years removed from my experience. Strangely enough, despite the difference in time and place, I found myself thinking, much too often, "there but for the grace of God...".

I also found myself thankful for growing up WITHOUT being wealthy...I got into enough without unlimited funds!

This blog is a place for all of us to talk about reading, in school and out. My primary targets will be folks who want to talk about reading and high school classes. I plan to post a new topic each week but feel free to add ideas and questions.

Let’s begin with success stories…and then we’ll move on to areas where you might want help. My favorite line from a high school reading story…”Miss, you mean you will REALLY help me find something I want to read?” So small, so sad, so true.

Join me; share a success story!

Unspoken rules…

Posted by dmlagrone on September 10, 2008

Back at this again. I labored 2 hours trying to add a ClustrMap to my sidebar. I finally tried changing the theme and voila…all the changes had happened. I’m convinced that there is a page of very simple instructions that I’m just missing.

Onward.

I plan to have this thing ready for teachers to use in a couple of weeks.

Okay, tech overload…

Posted by dmlagrone on February 20, 2008

Nothing is ever as easy as it looks. All I want to do is talk about reading, okay? That seems easy; everyone I know has one of these blamed things. Unfortunately, to talk/write about reading, one has to have a forum. I could, I suppose, simply join the other nuts out on the street but I’d really, really, really like to hear from other people, too.

So my pal, Karen, helps me with this idea of a blog. We considered other formats, wikis, for example, but this seemed easier for me and for others. WRONG.

I make this vent my first real post for two reasons:
1) I want everyone to suffer with me as I do this; and
2) I want a record of this so that I can talk to teachers about how
we often just throw our hands up over technology and go to the
bookstore instead.

Folks I know are hungry for reading conversation, so, by golly, I’m going to make this work.

Back to the salt mines…
